September 4, 2022 I begin every morning in the park facing the Snohomish River with Proper Cloud Hands Meditation. 1. Breathe deep through your feet and hold – slowly float one hand upstream, palm up, pull the breath down the outstretched arm into the shoulders, release the breath as the other hand floats downstream. 2. The challenge is to experience consciousness of our breath, the flow of the river, and when lost in our thoughts, come back: Inhaling upstream, exhaling down, passing the breath through your shoulders. 3. Today, a deep, lost thought surfaced to the consciousness of the Toddler. 4. He was watching my every move with his big, unblinking black eyes –- a beautiful boy with his Mother, both of the Asian race, lingering on the Snohomish Riverfront Trail. 5. The Toddler, proud of his balance, even stooping, needing to touch, so much to learn ... then slowly step by step up the bank to get closer -- our eyes are locked, together. 6. He turns, running downhill checking in with Mom who gives him the OK to try again; the Toddler watches me zip up my jacket and return to: Breathe up from the Feet ... Hold ... Exhale downstream. 7. The Toddler is trying to unzip his jacket Mother is not allowing it … one more try up the bank, again, eye-to-eye watching his joy running downhill ... too soon he is gone, moving east, in his Mother's arms. I begin the forms of tai chi chuan with a full heart and the confidence of a Proper Cloud Hands Meditation. ~w.
